From the history of the project “Physics of Systems”

1976-1984

The ideas of postcybernetic paradigm of the physics of the open systems had arisen in Saint-Petersburg Electrotechnical University ETU (“LETI”) under the influence of the USSR Academy of Science corresponding member A.A. Vavilov. The researches of A.A. Vavilov and of his disciples B.F. Fomin, D.H. Imaev, E.F. Avramchyck on system graphs and evolutionary synthesis were the first attempt of in-depth analysis of relations structures for the explanation of the behavior complexity and emergent properties of dynamical systems with feedback.

1978-2006

Large-scale medical researches of physiological and pathogenetic mechanisms of bronchi and lungs obstruction which were being executed under the direction of the corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences G.B. Fedoseev, had the defining value for the systemological conception’s build-up of Physics of the open systems. Scientific groups of many medical institutes of Saint Petersburg united their efforts and resources for executing these researches. The scientific group of prof. B.F. Fomin and prof. T.L. Kachanova (Saint-Petersburg Electrotechnical University ETU (“LETI”) provided computational support of the works. The empirical description of bronchial on organismic, organo, cellular, subcellular and molecular levels was created. Attempts to cognize bronchial asthma as the open system through its empirical description led to threshold of understanding the fundamental complexity of the open natural systems; to knowing the importance of overcoming of technological barriers of interdisciplinary interaction; to the creation of the computer centre of competence on bronchial asthma (the prototype of modern unified technological platform of knowledge).

1980-2003

In a great degree the formation and development of the new approach in Physics of Systems were being determined and directed by the empirical practice of generation of scientific knowledge about open humanitarian and technospheric systems. The major role here belonged to following interdisciplinary innovative projects:
1980-1985: Research Center “Vavilov's State Optical Institute” (particularly pure optical glass);
1988-2003: Open Joint stock company “Izhorskiye Zavody” (computer integrated manufacturing);
1982-1988: Central Research Institute “Rumb” (industry at military attack and in war time);
2003-2004: Federal State Unitary Enterprise “Admiralty Shipyards” and others.
From 2000, with participation of Siemens Business Services Osteuropa, the joint work of scientific schools of prof. B.F. Fomin and prof. T.L. Kachanova (faculty of computer technologies and informatics of Saint-Petersburg Electrotechnical University “LETI”) and prof.V.G. Kolosov, prof. I.L. Tukkel (faculty of innovations of Saint-Petersburg State Polytechnical University) in applied projects of the system knowledge generation was started.

1990-1998

For the arising of the new paradigm of systemology the creation of the software package COMOD (Conceptual MODelling) by T.L. Kachanova at the end of 1990 became the event of the principle importance. The system "COMOD" was intended for automatic generation of scientific knowledge about physiological and pathogenetic mechanisms of bronchi and lungs obstruction on the basis of empirical data about conditions of the patients with bronchial asthma.
From 1991 till 1998 the ability of COMOD to generate automatically the scientific knowledge from the empirical data was tested in many other projects:
1992: Saint-Petersburg Research Institute of Radiation Hygiene, field post number 61535 (the efficiency of actions for compensation of radiation sequelae of inhabitants of territories, which received radioactive contamination as a result of Chernobyl accident);
1994-1996: Open Joint stock company “Izhorskiye Zavody” (reproducibility of production products quality of the metallurgical enterprise);
1997: Saint-Petersburg Pasteur Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology, Voeikov main geophysical observatory (ecologically-epidemiologic analysis of infective morbidity’s development);
1998: Limited Liability Company “Baltic transport systems” (reduction of expenditures and dynamics speed-up of shippings and coast shipments).
And others.

1996-2003

In 1994 T.L. Kachanova and B.F. Fomin began systematic development of scientific matter of ideas, approaches and procedures that were realized in COMOD system. By 1996 the understanding of methodological foundations, meta-technology, constructive theory and informational technology of a new scientific method, i.e. reconstructive analysis of complex systems through their empirical descriptions, was reached. The solution of the general task of reconstructive analysis of complex systems (T.L. Kachanova) laid the foundation of the systemological conception of the Physics of Systems. On the basis of COMOD system the informational technology of system reconstructions was created and this technology was able to automatically solve tasks of ontological modeling of the open systems.

B.F. Fomin, prof. T.L Kachanova). The software-based technological cluster of the Physics of Systems is operating on the territory of Saint-Petersburg State Polytechnical University (faculty of innovations). In 2003-2004, the expertises of technologies of the cluster’s analytical core were executed (field post number 63166, “Leninets” Holding Company).
